Blank CV template: a structure to copy
The framework below is compiled from three sources: the State Employment Service’s CV guide, the fields from the official civil service recruitment form, and the 8-step sequence on which most templates on leading job search websites are based.
Copy it into a text editor, replace the field labels with your own details and save it as a template in Word.

Tip: Repeat the ‘Work experience’ section as many times as you have had jobs — in reverse chronological order (from the most recent to the earliest). Tailor the line ‘Position I am applying for’ and the order of the points in your work experience to the specific vacancy: list the responsibilities and achievements that match the requirements of the job advertisement first.
Completed examples: sales assistant, accountant, programmer
The basic structure is the same in all three cases — only the wording changes.
| Section | Sales Assistant | Accountant | Programmer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Job title | ‘Sales assistant’ or ‘Sales manager’ (as in the advert) | ‘Accountant’ (specifying the area of accountancy, if indicated in the vacancy) | ‘Software Developer’ (specifying the programming language or development specialism) |
| Job search objective | Job title from the advert | Job title from the advert | Job title from the advert |
| Main responsibilities | Working with customers on the shop floor, stocking shelves, and handling till operations | Primary documentation, reporting, reconciliations with counterparties | Code development and maintenance, testing, working with databases |
| Achievements | Action + sales metric: ‘Increased sales by 20%’ | Action + cost or time metric: ‘Reduced costs by 15%’ | Action + technical metric: “Optimised order processing time by 30%” |
| Skills and languages | POS equipment, accounting software | Accounting software, relevant legislation | Programming languages, development tools, English |
Example of how to complete the ‘Work Experience’ section
Work experience
- Period: [month/year] — [month/year]
- Company, town: Retail chain, [town]
Position: Sales Manager
Main responsibilities: Selling goods on the shop floor, advising customers, operating the till.
Achievements: Increased sales by 20%.
Work experience
Period: [month/year] — [month/year]
Company, city: Manufacturing company, [city]
Position: Accountant
Key responsibilities: Maintaining source documents, preparing reports, and reconciling accounts with counterparties.
Achievements: Reduced the time spent on document processing by 15%.
Work experience
Period: [month/year] — [month/year]
Company, city: IT product company, [city]
Role: Software Developer
Key responsibilities: Developing and maintaining service functionality, testing, working with databases.
Achievements: Optimised order processing — processing time reduced by [your figure]%.
The figure in the third example has been left blank deliberately: the figure should be taken from your own results, not from someone else’s CV. You can find real, completed CVs from candidates — including job title, employment status, city and previous places of work — in the public section ‘CVs’ on Injobe.
What a CV should contain
The State Employment Service specifies the following structure for a CV: surname, first name, patronymic; basic personal details — date of birth, address, contact telephone numbers; the purpose of the job search; work experience; education; additional information, including computer skills and knowledge of languages.
This is a recommendation, not a requirement. A CV is not among the documents that a citizen submits when entering into an employment contract under Article 24 of the Labour Code. The list includes:
- a passport or other identity document;
- employment record book (if available) or details of employment history from the register of insured persons;
- in cases provided for by law — a document confirming education, a medical certificate, a military registration document and other documents.
The candidate determines the content of their CV themselves. Therefore, the CV that most closely matches the job requirements will be the most successful.
| Section | What to write |
|---|---|
| Position | The specific title of the post you are applying for |
| Contact details | Date of birth, address, contact telephone numbers |
| Reason for seeking employment | The vacancy you are applying for |
| Work experience | Company and town/country, role, period (month/year – month/year), main responsibilities, achievements with specific results in figures |
| Education | Educational institution, year of enrolment and year of graduation, specialism, qualification (list of fields — from the official civil service form, point 6; the employment service only specifies the section itself) |
| Additional information | Computer skills, language skills |
The order of the sections is flexible: the employment service specifies the components of the CV, not the sequence. The only fixed rule is the logic — first, who you are and how to contact you; next, what role you are applying for; then, what evidence you have to support this.
How to complete each section
The position you are applying for
State the specific job title: ‘Sales Manager’, ‘Legal Assistant’. In HR documents, job titles are taken from the Classification of Occupations (where they are listed in the masculine form, with the exception of a few positions such as ‘seamstress’ or ‘nanny’). For CVs, strict adherence to the Classification is not mandatory, but using the exact wording from the job advertisement increases your chances of passing the initial screening.
The aim of your job search
State a clear objective: to secure a specific role. Avoid abstract phrases (‘to find an interesting job’, ‘to develop within the company’).
Contact details
Provide your full name, date of birth, city of residence, telephone number and professional email address.
Work experience
This is the main section of your CV. For each place of employment, state:
Company name, sector and city/country.
Job title.
Period of employment (month/year – month/year).
Main responsibilities.
Achievements (with specific results in figures).
Describe your achievements using action verbs: ‘organised’, ‘optimised’, ‘increased’, ‘implemented’.
Education
State the name of the educational institution, years of study, field of study and degree obtained (Bachelor’s, Master’s). It is not necessary to include the diploma number and series in a standard CV.
Skills, languages and additional information
This includes your level of proficiency in using a computer and specialised software, knowledge of foreign languages (specifying the level), and whether you hold a driving licence or certificates of course completion.
How many pages and in what format to submit
- Length: The recommended length is 1–2 pages. If you have less than 5 years’ experience, try to fit the information onto one page. Do not artificially pad out the text.
- Format: Edit the file in Word format (.docx), but send the employer a PDF version. This ensures that the layout will not become distorted when opened on any device.
Official CV format for the civil service
To apply for a civil service post, you must submit a CV in a clearly defined format (Appendix 2-1 to the Procedure for Conducting the Competition, approved by CMU Resolution No. 246 of 25 March 2016).
The current form contains 11 sections (section 7 was deleted by CMU Resolution No. 798 of 28 July 2021).
Structure of the official CV form:
Points 1–3: Surname, first name, patronymic.
Point 4: Date of birth (day, month and year).
Point 5: Details of the document certifying identity and confirming Ukrainian citizenship.
Section 6: Information on higher education (institution, years of study, specialisation, diploma number).
Point 8: Proficiency in foreign languages (compulsory for category ‘A’).
Point 9: Work experience, civil service experience and experience in relevant positions.
Point 10: Details of close relatives (for category ‘A’).
Point 11: Information on the submission of the declaration for the previous year (for category ‘A’).
Point 12: Additional information (knowledge, skills, academic publications, etc.).
Special provisions during martial law: For the duration of martial law, competitive selection processes for civil service posts may be suspended, and appointments will be made via a simplified procedure (application, personal details form, documents regarding education and citizenship, declaration). However, the CV format remains relevant for standard competitive selection once it resumes.
Legal limits: what an employer may and may not require
Mandatory CV requirements: Article 24 of the Labour Code of Ukraine (the Labour Code) lists the documents required for the conclusion of an employment contract (passport, employment record book/details of employment history, educational qualifications, military registration document). A CV is not included in this list — it is a tool for preliminary selection.
Prohibition on requesting unnecessary information: According to Article 25 of the Labour Code, an employer is prohibited from requesting information regarding party or national affiliation, origin, or registration of place of residence or stay.
Protection against discrimination: Article 2-1 of the Labour Code prohibits any discrimination in the field of employment (on the grounds of age, gender, health status, marital status, etc.). Stating one’s marital status, age or height in a CV, or attaching a photograph, is the candidate’s right, not their obligation.
Job advertisements: The Ukrainian laws ‘On Employment’ (Article 11) and ‘On Advertising’ (Article 24-1) prohibit the inclusion of age or gender restrictions in job advertisements (for example, ‘women under 35 only’).
Personal data: Separate written consent for the processing of personal data within the text of a CV is notby law, as the processing takes place within the framework of an employment relationship (Article 11 of the Law ‘On the Protection of Personal Data’).
CVs with no work experience
If you are looking for your first job, emphasise your education, academic achievements and practical skills:
CV
Surname, first name, patronymic:
Date of birth:
Town/City:
Contact telephone number:
Email:
Position applied for:
Reason for seeking employment:
Education:
Educational institution, years of study:
Specialism and degree obtained:
Academic achievements and courses:
Coursework/final projects, participation in competitions, academic contests and conferences:
Work experience and voluntary work:
Involvement in student organisations, voluntary projects, work placements:
Professional skills and computer proficiency:
Language skills:
Hobbies and interests:
The ‘Education’ section of a CV with no work experience takes centre stage. In addition to the institution and years of study, it should state your degree programme: this helps the employer understand what kind of work you are prepared for.
Cover letter to accompany your CV
Always include a short cover letter with your CV. It should be short enough that the text can be read in 10–15 seconds.
Cover letter template:
Good afternoon, [Recruiter’s or HR Manager’s name]!
I am sending my CV in response to the vacancy for [Job title as stated in the advert]. I have [specify number of years] years’ experience in the field of [name of field], including successful experience in [list 1–2 key skills or achievements that directly match the job requirements].
I would be delighted to discuss the details of the role further during an interview.
Yours faithfully,
[Your First Name and Surname]

Mistakes that get CVs rejected
| Mistake | Why it gets rejected | How to fix it |
|---|---|---|
| ‘Any position’ | The recruiter cannot tell what kind of specialist they are dealing with. | State the exact job title from the vacancy advert. |
| Vague objective | Phrases such as ‘I want to work in a friendly team’ are of no use. | State clearly: ‘Sales Manager vacancy’. |
| A list of duties without results | Gives the impression of passively carrying out processes without a focus on results. | Include at least 1–2 quantitative indicators of your achievements. |
| Unnecessary personal information | Details of health, weight, marital status or religious beliefs. | Remove this information; make room for skills and achievements. |
| Text is too long (3+ pages) | A recruiter spends up to 10 seconds on an initial review of a CV. | Shorten the text to 1–2 pages, keeping only relevant experience. |
| Distorted facts | Experience, roles and dates can always be verified | Only include information that can be confirmed by documents or a previous employer |
