When is Accountants’ Day in 2026
16 July 2026 (Thursday). Decree No. 662/2004 specifies a fixed calendar date rather than a flexible rule (such as ‘the third Sunday in July’), so the date does not depend on the year and is not moved to a weekend.
| Year | Date | Day of the week |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | 16 July | Wednesday |
| 2026 | 16 July | Thursday |
| 2027 | 16 July | Friday |
| 2028 | 16 July | Sunday |
In 2026, the public holiday falls on a working day, so greetings and corporate events are planned to fit within the normal working schedule. In 2028, when 16 July falls on a Sunday, celebrations at the company are usually rescheduled to Friday or Monday, as decided by management.
Official name of the public holiday: two decrees instead of one

The holiday was established by Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 662/2004 of 18 June 2004. Paragraph 1 of this document states: ‘To establish a professional holiday in Ukraine — Accountant’s Day, to be celebrated annually on 16 July’. The status of the act is ‘in force’.
The words ‘and auditor’ were added later. Presidential Decree No. 103/2018 of 20 April 2018 officially renamed the holiday to ‘Accountant and Auditor Day’, and in the preamble replaced the phrase ‘accounting services’ with ‘accounting services and auditors’. The current version of Decree No. 662/2004 has been in force since 24 April 2018.
| Period | Name of the holiday | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| 2004–2018 | Accountant’s Day | Decree No. 662/2004 in its original version |
| from 24 April 2018 | Accountant and Auditor Day | Decree No.103/2018 |
Which name to use in an order or congratulatory message
In official documents and orders, the full title should be used: ‘Accountant and Auditor Day’, as this is the title set out in the current version of the decree.
‘Accountant’s Day’ is a commonly used colloquial name. Using it in an informal greeting or on a card is not incorrect.
There is no separate ‘Auditor’s Day’ in Ukraine: since 2018, auditors have been celebrating their professional holiday together with accountants on 16 July.
Why 16 July was chosen
On 16 July 1999, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the Law of Ukraine ‘On Accounting and Financial Reporting in Ukraine’ No. 996-XIV — the foundational regulatory act for the entire profession.
An important point: Quite a few online sources (including Wikipedia and regional portals) present this connection as an officially established fact. However, the text of Decree No. 662/2004 itself does not explain the reasons for choosing the date: the preamble merely refers to the ‘significant contribution of accounting staff and auditors’. Therefore, the coincidence of the dates (the adoption of the law and the establishment of the holiday) is a confirmed fact, whilst the link between them remains a logical interpretation.
The context of the 2018 renaming is also linked to legislation: on 21 December 2017, the Law of Ukraine ‘On the Audit of Financial Statements and Auditing Activities’ No. 2258-VIII, which established auditing as a separate regulated profession. Four months later, a decree was issued adding ‘auditors’ to the name of the public holiday.
Is 16 July a public holiday?

No. It is a professional holiday, not an official public holiday. The list of public holidays and non-working days is set out in Article 73 of the Labour Code of Ukraine (LC No. 322-VIII), and 16 July is not included in it.
| Date | Public holiday under Art. 73 of the Labour Code |
|---|---|
| 1 January | New Year’s Day |
| 8 March | International Women’s Day |
| 1 May | Labour Day |
| 8 May | Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism in the Second World War 1939–1945 |
| 28 June | Constitution Day of Ukraine |
| 15 July | Day of Ukrainian Statehood |
| 24 August | Independence Day of Ukraine |
| 1 October | Defenders of Ukraine Day |
| 25 December | Christmas Day |
Official public holidays under Article 73 of the Labour Code: Easter (12 April in 2026), Trinity Sunday (31 May) and Christmas (25 December).
What does martial law change
In accordance with Part 6 of Article 6 of the Law of Ukraine ‘On the Organisation of Labour Relations under Martial Law’ dated 15 March 2022 No. 2136-IX, during the period of martial law, the provisions of Article 73 of the Labour Code do not apply.
This means that there are no official public holidays or non-working days during this period. The article itself remains in force and will come back into effect once martial law has ended.
This has no impact on 16 July, as it was not a public holiday even in peacetime. A reduction in working hours, the organisation of a festive event or the payment of a bonus to mark a professional holiday are possible only at the employer’s discretion (by order of the manager or under the terms of a collective agreement).

International Accountant’s Day (10 November)
10 November (which falls on a Tuesday in 2026) is not recognised by any Ukrainian legislation. This date is also not included in the official list of UN international days (10 November on the UN list is World Science Day for Peace and Development — World Science Day for Peace and Development).
The origin of the date 10 November is linked to the publication in 1494 of Luca Pacioli’s work ‘Summa de arithmetica, geometria, proportioni et proportionalita’, in which the principles of double-entry bookkeeping were systematically set out for the first time. This is the version accepted in professional circles, but it has no formal regulatory confirmation.
